US Diaries: Of Horses and A Ranch

Los Osos, California (May 2010)

One of my lolas live in Los Osos, just about 3-4 hours away from San Jose so when I visited California two summers ago, we drove down to see her. Just like me, she loves dogs, specially Shih Tzus, so meet her adorable little dog Peachy Pie!

After dropping off our things at Lola Unding’s house, we headed to her son’s house for dinner. They live in a ranch about 20 minutes away from Lola’s.

Rancho Bulakenyo houses world-renowned show horses. They go from country to country in search for the most beautiful horses and one of their horses from Egypt even made it on the cover of Arabian Horse World Magazine in 2009. If you click on the link, it will lead you to their website, if you’re interested! This is Morning Star, she was the youngest horse on the ranch when I visited.

Meet Uncle Jody, the proud owner of Rancho Bulakenyo. Lola Unding told us later on about one of Uncle Jody’s high profile transactions; the Count of Argentina had seen one of his horses during a show and offered to buy it.

It’s not a clear shot, but that’s Patrick Swayze’s horse on the left. It was one of his dying wishes to have one of his horses bred with one of Uncle Jody’s and this wish of his was fulfilled. He also fortunately witnessed the birth of the newborn before he tragically passed.

I know I’m no photographer, but you have to admit, this shot is pretty good for a point-and-shoot.

Spent the rest of the spare time we had going around the ranch before heading back inside to have dinner. It was really nice seeing all the beautiful horses up close, and it was such an experience to feel how it’s like to live/be on a ranch.
